Pettitte struggles, A-rod gets boo'ed Sawx take opener

Time is going by for the Yanks as they fell another game behind the Sox in the wild card as Boston rolled over Pettitte and the Yanks tonight by a score of 7-3. Alex Rodriguez was boo'ed all night as he finished tonightds game 0-5 including grounding into two double plays. Tim Wakefield picked up the win in his first start AUG 6th as he came off the D.L. They are now 6 games behind the Sox in the wildcard. Rays also lost to DOC Halladay as the Sox picked up a game in the AL East.

Andy Pettitte retired Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia to begin the game then lost the plate as he walked David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis back to back. One note tonight was home plate umpire Jim Reynolds was terrible for the Yankee pitchers. Pettitte fully wiggled out of thejam when he got newest comer to the rivalry Jason Bay to fly out to end the top of the first. Yanks started their night promising when Johnny Damon hit first of his two homers tonight to right field down the pole to put the Yanks up 1-0.

Andy would not hold that lead as the Sox quickly came back and knottted the game up. The future HOF in my opinion got the first 2 outs easily then was put into fire when Jeff Bailey and Kevin Cash both picked up cheapie hits to third base side. The couple of infield hits led to a RBI single that was lined by Ellsbury to tie the game at 1. Yanks went ahead in the bottom of the second when they put together a string of 2 out hits by Matsui,Cano and the big RBI single by Jose Molina to give the bombers a 2-1 advantage.

David Ortiz began the third with an leadoff double then came around with the go ahead run when Kevin youkilis drilled a Pettitte pitch over to left as Youkilis motored into second with RBI double. Jason Bay gave the Sox a lead when he hit one past Pettitte and into center as he plated Youkilis to give the Sox their second lead of the game. Red Sox were quickly shutdown with 2 outs in the fifth then the Sox continued their attack on Pettitte. Hits by Bay and Lowrie set them up again as Coco Crisp creamed a pitch into left to give Boston a 4-2 lead. Then Crisp stole his 16th bag on the season. Jeff Bailey ripped a pitch off the third base bag as Rodriguez backed handed and threw to first when Bailey beat it out to drive both runs home to give the Sox a comanding 6-2 lead.

Johnny Damon hit his second solo homer of the night in the bottom of the fifth against the knuckle baller Tim Wakefield to credited the Yanks with the third run of the game for the bombers. After Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu reached with hits Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi would be fly out victims to kill further damage. Red Sox would add another to crush the Yanks dream of a opening series win. brian Bruney lost the plate in sixth he walked Dustin Pedroia,David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis consectivly but no much damage was done except for a sac fly from Jason Bay.

Yanks tried for a big rally in the 7th,8th and 9 innings but was unable to erase a deficit. Hideki Okajima walked Bobby Abreu to load the bases as Terry Francona brought in Justin Masterson to try to get Alex Rodriguez to bounce into a rally ending inning ending double play and thats what A-rod does as he hears a classic Bronx boo birds. Yankees tried again in the eighth Jason Giambi and Xaiver Nady picked up hits but was stranded when Matsui was caught looking and then Cano popped out and I ROD who has done nothing in pinstripes grounded out on the first pitch against Papelbon. Papelbum retired the Yanks in the 9th despite a error that allowed Jeter to reach. Papelbon ended the game when he blew away Rodriguez as he finished with an 0-5 night and a bunch of boos.

Notes:
...Red Sox now take a slight 7-6 season series lead with 5 games to go with the bombers
....Tonights lost marks a very important must wins for the next 2 games which are not promising with Ponson on mound tomorrow and Lester vs the bombers Thursday Sox could easily sweep
