It was a very good night for the Yanks as they defeated the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 9-4. Derek Jeter helped the Yanks on the succesful night by blooping a hit off of Brian Roberts glove for hit 2,500 for Jeter. Yanks got more help on homers by Cano,Molina,Ransom and Nady.

Yankees struck early off Radhames Liz whos in his second stint with the O's this season. Johnny Damon smacked a double to right to lead off the game. Derek Jeter then blooped his 2,500 hit to send damon to third to set the Yanks up. Bobby Abreu slacked a 1-2 Liz pitch into right to plate Damon to give Yanks a 1-0 lead . Alex Rodriguez grounded into a rally ending around the horn double play to escape further trouble.

Orioles crushed moose twice this season coming into this game. They quickly tied the game off the 16 game winner in the bottom of the first. Brian Roberts led off with an single then stole second base easily. Moose got Markakis and red hot Melvin Mora out to setup a 1 on 2 out situation. Aubrey Huff hurt the bombers when he grounded a base hit past Robinson Cano to tie the game. Mussina retired Luke Scott to get out of the inning tied. Orioles sprinkled a lead when they got hits from Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora that was followed up by another RBI hit from Huff to give the O's a 3-1 lead thru 4 innings.

One thing you saw in this game was Yankees have lots of life falling behind that didnt happen so much this season. trailing 3-1 to the Orioles and Redhames Liz into the fifth the yanks erase the dificit and tie the game up. Robinson Cano started the long ball night when he smashed a 0-1 high fastball off the tarp and into Euthaw street to pull the Yankees closer. Two pitches later Jose Molina ripped a fastball into first row in the left field seats for a game tying homer. Back to Back for Cano and Molina. Bobby Abreu got a single but was stranded when Alex Rodriguez bounced out against relief pitcher Dennis Sarfate.

Mike Mussina came out to pitch in the bottom of the sixth in a 3-3 tie game. Kevin Milliar got on with a ground-rule double then Luke Scott single slowy to right to have runners at corners and only one away. Ramon Hernandez who hit a homer earlier in the game drew home Milliar on a sacrifice fly to give the Orioles another lead this time a 4-3 lead. He didnt get the win but he didnt lose as well.

Yanks took moose off the hook when they showed life again. Bobby Abreu started the big couple of innings with a single he was 5-5 on the day. Alex Rodriguez drilled one to deep left field it looked like it was gone it was off the wall in left as Abreu was stopped at third with two on no outs Jason Giambi continued to struggle when he popped out to accord the first out. Dave Trembly brigns in Kameron Mickoillio making his second appreance in the MLB on the first pitch to Xaiver Nady he threw a wild pitch that scored Abre uwith the game tying run. With A-ROD on third the 'X' MAN is clutch! he slapped a single to right as yanks take a 5-4 lead.

Yankees really cracked the game wide open in the 9th when Fernando Cabrera came in to relief. Bobby Abreu's 5th hit of the game came in the 9th with two outs then was stopped at third on an Alex Rodriguez ground-rule double to left. Defensive replacement Cody Ransom hit his second Yankee homer in 2 at bats in pinstripe when he nailed a 3 run homer to hand the Yanks a comfy 8-4 cushion. Xavier Nady added another on a solo shot of his own to deep center field 9-4 lead.

Mariano Rivera came in for a4 out save and he got it completing a 1-2-3 9th inning to shut down the orioles as Yankees take game 1 of the series by a score of 9-4. Homers by Cano, molina, Ransom and Nady pushed the Yanks to a much needed victory.
